Computer and IT Training
The Foundation of Goodness prioritises access to computers, underpinned by high quality training for rural communities, through its own dedicated and well equipped computer training centres, and through support to schools in developing their resources and staff.

We provide computer training with experienced lecturers at MCC Centre of Excellence Computer Training Centre, Aviva Village computer room and the Village Heartbeat computer classroom. Facilities include top-class air conditioned classrooms equipped with up-to-date donated computers, printers, scanners and projection equipment.
Thanks to a donation of software from Microsoft in January 2009, every computer is now fully up-to-date and students are able to learn using a wide range of applications and programs.
300 Children, youth and adults receive computer training every 3 months, completing three-month courses in:
- Introduction to IT for Kids
- Diploma in Computer Science
- Diploma in Web Design
- Diploma in Graphic Design
- Diploma in Computer Programming
In rural Sri Lanka access to ICT is low, especially for children. The Foundation of Goodness has provided nearly 100 computers to 54 schools in the region, benefiting around 5400 students. In addition, we also supply IT trainers and additional hardware (printers) to three schools, and have built computer labs in 5 schools.
A Department of Census and Statistics report found that
- The computer-student ratio is 1:137.
- More than 60 percent of teachers lack the computer literacy skills needed in a modern teaching environment.

In addition, a further study found that:
- 6.9% of rural households own a computer, compared to 17% of urban households
90% of the population cannot use the internet
