In 1999 we survived on the generosity of friends and those sympathetic to the plight of rural villagers- mostly Sri Lankans who wanted to help.
After the tsunami, the waves of compassion were unprecedented. The single largest outpouring of global sympathy swept through the affected areas, and so many donors and volunteers found themselves in Seenigama.
Today, we look back with never ceasing gratitude and incredulity to that moment of historic significance. And as we turn our attention away from disaster response work, to a sustainable approach to community development, as was our original intention, we continue to seek support ensure that what was set up in the wake of the wave can continue to help local people ride new waves of success into the future.
