KPMG STAFF SHOWS ONGOING SUPPORT FOR WELLBEING OF VILLAGERS

On 26th September villagers from the KPMG-LOLC funded tsunami housing complex in Seenigama gave a warm Sri Lankan welcome to visiting KPMG staff from Galle and the UK.

A warm welcome for the KPMG visitors

Here on a trek to raise money for UK charity ‘Help the Hospices’, the UK visitors had requested a special stop in Seenigama to see the work of the Foundation and to meet the villagers they had helped in such a wonderful way to rebuild their lives after the tsunami.

KPMG-LOLC village was one of the first housing projects to be completed in Seenigama after the tsunami. Work started in December 2005 and finished just four months later (visit ‘A DREAM COME TRUE’). 50 families were the happy and grateful recipients of the houses. Most of these families had lived within the 100-meter coastal belt and lost everything on that fateful day, including for some the precious lives of loved ones.

The gift of essential items brings
smiles to the villagers’ faces

To show their ongoing support for the wellbeing of the villagers, KPMG Galle arranged an overwhelming gesture of compassion and generosity, donating rice, essential provisions and household items to all 50 households.

It is a credit to KPMG staff and the ethos of the company that they remember the people they have helped and continue to return to support those in need.

The visiting KPMG staff from UK & Galle

The Foundation of Goodness thanks all those who took part for visiting the village and for giving so much to the village and looks forward to welcoming them back again in Seenigama.

This report was filed by Quen Geuter the Foundation’s Development Management (Volunteer) who met the visiting KPMG team and coordinated the visit.
