The Dream Come True
If the Foundation of Goodness’s soft spot for sports had one hidden agenda running, that is to produce national-level sportsmen and sportswomen. Today, we are living our dream having accomplished the first step of many such achievements to come.
Amidst many evidences of hidden talent that has blossomed from Seenigama region, three stories in particular have made it to national news which we take great pride in.

Yashoda Avanthika Mendis, a right hand batswoman from the Foundation of Goodness Ladies’ Cricket team is selected to represent the Sri Lanka National Womens’ Cricket Team at the Quadrangular Cricket Tournament between Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Netherlands and Ireland scheduled for 23-29 April 2011. Seasoned by experience gained by playing for Foundation of Goodness Ladies Cricket Team that became runners-up in Sri Lanka Division2 Cricket Tournaments in 2009 and 2010, we stand by our confidence in Yashoda to excel in the Sri Lankan Cricket Team.

It goes without saying that Yashoda’s achievement made many hearts rejoice in joyful tears. Not only it is an achievement for the rural community but, it is also a moment of pure joy for all of us as a nation, not to forget the many caring donors who believed in us to extend their generosity which enabled us to provide the infrastructure training, equipment and life skills etc., harnessing the skills and talent of these village youth. This height of achievement reached within a short period of time stands as evidence to finest outcomes brought forth by hidden talent exposed to greater opportunities for advancement, given the most conducive environment.

K.G.G. Dilanjali is another example of a rare gem that is shining in the shore, thanks to undying dedication and commitment backed up by training facilities at the Foundation of Goodness Bryan Adams Pool complex. Having won the 6 mile Kinross Aquatic Swimming Club Sea Swim Challenge in 2009 and 2010, Dilanjali was identified to be trained with the national squad in China for a period of one month. Thereafter, Dilanjali’s talent was duly recognized by the Sri Lanka Air Force in 2011 when she was absorbed as part of their Swimming Squad. Determined to hold the title for herself, it came as no surprise when Dilanjali seized the Champion title at this year’s Kinross Aquatic Swimming club Sea Swim Challenge, under Sri Lanka Air Force Colours. There is no doubt in us that she will continue to excel in time to come.

Neranja Madhushani, Foundation of Goodness’s Netball Academy Team Captain has continuously led the team down the hall of fame. As pay-off for her undying passion for Netball and boundless commitment, Neranja was selected to represent Sri Lanka under 19 schools overseas tour of Malaysia in 2010. Consecutively for the second time, she will represent Sri Lanka under 19 Netball team in their overseas tour of Australia in June/July 2011. This too is an incredible performance given the facilities, professional coaching and the right background. We wish her many years of success at this level which helps us to be motivated and rejoice in to the future.

Today, these young women stand as living proof for limitless heights one could reach given the backing, cultivated the right attitude, and supported with perseverance and positive belief. We, at the Foundation of Goodness believe in youth and their boundless capabilities and timeless abilities. And it is with our profound anticipation that we hope to continue living this dream knowing that there is much more hidden talent to be unleashed.

None of these achievements would have come to pass if not for great human beings that have been with us, supporting by way of sponsorship in every step of the way. Our sincere gratitude and blessings remain with all those who made our dream a reality. May this be just the beginning of another wonderful journey!
