Tribute to the Outstanding Volunteers

Volunteers from near and far have made an incredible impact on the rehabilitation of the Seenigama area and we wish to sincerely thank each and everyone one of them for their amazing participation - it is deeply appreciated!

Prior to the tsunami, the Foundation of Goodness had been working in the Seenigama area for over six years. Our community development programs were managed by four permanent staff. Since the tsunami, our work has expanded dramatically. As you can ascertain from this website, we have completed a massive array of projects including 88 new homes (with another 250 or more planned), 200 livelihoods, the Centre for Excellence and a myriad of other programs - obviously this level of work has required far more than 4 people to coordinate and we have relied heavily on volunteers to fill the gap.

We have been fortunate to have a huge number of dedicated, professional and open minded volunteers help us in many ways, from both Sri Lanka and abroad.

Volunteers play an integral role in the everyday administration of the Foundation. Some work full time at the office, while others provide their services on a part time basis while also working their regular busy hours. Areas include fund raising, donor management and project coordination, web site development, community participation, budgeting and logistics. This work is not the most glamorous, but without these areas the Foundation could not possibly run as effectively as it does to deliver the best outcomes on the ground.

Volunteers also help us run programs directly with the village people. We have had fantastic support in medical services, children's development such as art and drama therapy as well as sports and games, hands on home building and painting, teaching, cleaning debris and damaged homes, drainage and water specialists, well cleaning and much more.

We can also thank the volunteers for allowing us to keep administration costs extremely low. Unlike many other NGOs the Foundation's administration cost is on average under 5% each of month's project budget. We are proud of this figure and strive to deliver as much benefit to the community as possible from every rupee, dollar or pound we get.

Due to the number of volunteers involved, we have deliberately not mentioned any names specifically. You know who you are . thank you from the bottom of our hearts and may you go from happiness to happiness!

All of you have contributed to achieving our dream of building a rural community model village.
