Medical Teams Offer World Class Treatment to Villagers

The Foundation of Goodness Secretariat in Seenigama played host to two world class medical teams this month. Dr. Aisha Simjee is a specialist opthamologist based in California in the USA treated approximately 350 patients during her visit, providing free medication which she had brought along with her.

Dr Smijee came with her daughter Sofia and two other medical students, Bishoy and Ray. Her energy and enthusiasm were inspirational! She worked for 8 full days and hopes to organise intra-occular eye surgeries for patients in the village in October through the SEE team.

Some medicines that remained were also given to the Governmental hospital and Dr Simjee also left behind a large number of spectacle frames to be donated to the villagers.

Dr. Sofia and our own Health leader, Dr Radhika Jinadasa, will be working on a study on the village diseases (calculating disease prevalence, incidence etc) to prepare a comprehensive report in the coming months.

The other medical team consisted of Dr. Rahmi Mowjood who came along with two other experienced doctors and a number of medical students again from California. This group treated approximately 445 patients working from the 8th, 9th, 11th, 12th and half day on the 13th of July. They left behind all the medicines that were remaining at the Rainbow Clinic. It is a wonderful gift and includes antibiotics.

A detailed report will be posted shortly by this medical team on our web site but what the team did with their healing touch was absolutely humane and noble. What an opportunity it was for the disadvantaged villagers to have them examine by US specialists, a blessing that arose from the tsunami. They were really touched by their experience and pledged to do more for the villagers by way of yearly arrangement to visit the area.
