Environment Management

The Foundation of Goodness is dedicated to preserving our finite natural resources for both ourselves and the future generations. As a result the aim is to cut costs and save precious resources through taking on the principles of sustainable development.

An Environmental Management Programme has been set up by the Foundation which covers AVIVA Village, KPMG/LOLC Village, MCC Centre of Excellence and most schools in the region. The programme first began in AVIVA Village where each family was provided with separate bins for plastic, paper and polythene and a compost bin and plants to be harvested in their individual gardens for consumption.

The Foundation of Goodness’ Environment Project Centre is committed to education about and practical application of environmental principles in Seenigama and the surrounding areas.

Located in the MCCC Centre of Excellence, the Environment Project Centre is staffed by local volunteers who have created systems for separating solid waste in the area and planted a home garden with local produce.

The Environment Committee has been involved in education programs in local schools since the 2004 tsunami. With the help of local experts, the committee members have held workshops in waste management and home gardens.

They have also undertaken several beach cleans on nearby shores with the help of the ‘Green Team’, a group of young people who meet regularly to discuss and implement environmentally based activities.

The Environmental Project Centre volunteers are enthusiastic about undertaking new and larger projects such as a waste recycling depot in nearby Hikkaduwa, and believe attitude change is an essential part of their work.

They require further funding to get such projects underway and hope that donors will recognize the importance of their work and offer support.  To donate to the Environment Project Centre, visit the online donation page and specify ‘environment’ in the notes section of the online form.
