Sport is vital for the development of children and youth in the Seenigama region. Our Sports Programme assists young people to realize their potential, interact with peers, gain new skills and confidence, develop leadership skills and team work and also to have fun.
Through the generous support extended by Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, we are addressing the lack of: opportunity in rural areas; inter-village communication; and more female participation in community decisions. The programme runs structured competitions in various sports such as cricket, volleyball, softball cricket, swimming, netball, badminton, beach volleyball and athletics in Seenigama and surrounding villages. These activities are conducted throughout the year, encouraging and nurturing the skills of children and youth from the age of 6 to 25 years.
The construction of a Sports Academy has further enhanced the skills and opportunities for these young individuals. It is the first of its kind to be developed in a Sri Lankan village.
