Thanks to the generosity of Phil Ball, a total of 944 used spectacles were collected in the UK and sent to Sri Lanka, where they have made a significant impact on the lives of many people in need. With special thanks to Tom Seabrook and his family, who helped carry these spectacles to Sri Lanka, the effort has been a resounding success in bringing clearer vision to those who otherwise couldn’t afford the necessary eyewear.
In Sri Lanka, where many individuals struggle to meet even the most basic needs, purchasing spectacles can often feel like an unattainable luxury. For many, this cost is simply out of reach, and the consequences are far-reaching: impaired vision can hinder a child’s ability to learn, limit job opportunities, and reduce overall quality of life.

Since the arrival of the spectacles, 328 pairs have already been distributed through the OYOB Centre of Excellence in Seenigama, with the remaining 616 pairs being allocated to 20 Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centres (VHE) across Sri Lanka. These spectacles have been carefully distributed to communities in need, including those in Mathagal (72 pairs), Rathgama (32 pairs), Monaragala (32 pairs), Thirukkovil (32 pairs), Bandarawela (32 pairs), and many others in both urban and rural areas. The villages of Udumulla and Sittandy each received 20 pairs.
In villages like Vavuniya, Dambulla, and Polonnaruwa, where access to healthcare and vision correction options is limited, receiving a pair of spectacles is truly life-changing. It not only restores vision but also opens doors to new possibilities, such as the ability to read, work, or simply go about daily tasks with ease.

These spectacles are a precious gift to many individuals who would have otherwise continued their lives with blurry and impaired vision. Each pair represents more than just a tool for better sight, it symbolises hope, empowerment, and the opportunity to thrive.
This initiative exemplifies how small acts of kindness can make an enormous difference. The support of Phil Ball, Tom Seabrook, and others like them has played a crucial role in improving the quality of life for thousands of Sri Lankans. We are deeply grateful for this generosity and look forward to continuing such impactful work with your continued support. Thank you once again for your invaluable contribution to the people of Sri Lanka. Through the gift of clearer vision, you have given more than just spectacles, you’ve given a brighter, clearer future to so many.
