Journey to Success – Monaragala Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centre
For six months, Swarna diligently honed her skills in the Dressmaking course at the Monaragala VHE Centre. With a keen eye for detail and a passion for sewing, she decided to turn her newfound expertise into a business. She launched her tailoring enterprise in Badalkumbura, Monaragala, specialising in saree jackets, a wardrobe staple for many women in Sri Lanka.
Understanding her market, Swarna strategically targeted preschool teachers, schoolteachers, and government employees. She also expanded her business by offering custom bridal dresses and identifying brides-to-be in the Badalkumbura area. Today, Swarna is widely recognised in both Badalkumbura and Monaragala for her high-quality tailoring. Her growing success is a testament to her hard work and the opportunities created through our empowerment programmes.
A Dream Realised – Sittandy Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centre
Mrs S. Lalithajini’s journey is one of perseverance and ambition. After completing the Dressmaking course at the Sittandy VHE Centre, she turned her training into a livelihood. Today, she owns her tailoring shop, where she sews and sells her creations. Her journey exemplifies how skill development can create economic independence and uplift entire communities.
From Struggle to Stability – Pallai Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centre
Prabakaran Mery Dorisiya, a graduate from the first batch of the Dressmaking course at Pallai VHE, faced financial hardships with her small family. Determined to improve her situation, she dreamed of opening a tailoring shop. However, financial constraints led her to start small, working from home with her sewing machine and taking up minor tailoring orders.
Her dedication and talent quickly gained recognition, and soon, she was receiving regular orders. Today, she earns approximately Rs. 25,000 per month, a steady income that has transformed her family’s financial stability. She is now saving towards her ultimate goal of opening her tailoring shop. Her story is a powerful reminder that even the smallest steps can lead to significant change.
Tailoring Success – Vavuniya Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centre
Visaananthan Selvaruby, another talented student from our Dressmaking course at Vavuniya VHE Centre, has successfully turned her skills into a productive venture. She now tailors dresses for personal use and takes on school uniform orders, demonstrating the practical benefits of the training she received. Her ability to use her skills for financial independence is truly inspiring.

Mailvaganam Lakshana, a dedicated student from the Thirukkovil VHE Centre, has embraced her training with determination. She has already embarked on her journey as a dressmaker, transforming her passion into a source of income.
