Between mid-2025 and early 2026, Tino Selvadurai generously volunteered to conduct a series of engaging English workshops across our Village Heartbeat Empowerment (VHE) Centres, as well as at the Centre of Excellence in Seenigama. Through his dedication, he brought valuable learning opportunities to underserved communities across Sri Lanka, sparking curiosity, building confidence, and opening doors for students to connect with the world through language.
Workshops and Activities Across Centres
During his visits, Mr Selvadurai worked closely with students and teachers across our Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centres in Mathagal, Vavuniya, Oddusuddan, Pallai, Rathgama, Udumulla, Ahangama, Monaragala, Ragala, the Centre of Excellence in Seenigama, Dambulla, Polonnaruwa, Maskeliya, Kotmale, Trincomalee, Sittandy, Thirukkovil, Hatton, Bandarawela, and Mahiyanganaya to create interactive and practical learning experiences. Students participated in exercises that strengthened speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills, while interactive sessions encouraged them to communicate confidently in English. At the same time, Mr. Selvadurai observed lessons, provided guidance on innovative and effective teaching strategies, and shared valuable resources to support continued learning. Teachers also received support in refining lesson planning, improving classroom engagement, and introducing practical approaches to enhance overall learning outcomes.
Impact of the Workshops
Through Mr Tino Selvadurai’s volunteer efforts, students across these centres are developing greater confidence in using English, not only in the classroom, but also in expressing their ideas, ambitions, and identities. His interactive approach encourages active participation and builds a genuine enthusiasm for learning. Teachers, too, are empowered with practical strategies, fresh perspectives, and tools to create more engaging and effective learning environments. Together, these workshops are doing more than improving language skills. They are building confidence, unlocking potential, and shaping brighter futures.
Looking Ahead
With continued volunteer support, students are steadily gaining the skills and confidence needed to thrive, while teachers continue to adopt innovative methods that enrich classroom learning. Our Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centres, provide children with more than just lessons, offering a safe and nurturing space to explore, learn, and develop essential life skills. Volunteers like Tino Selvadurai bring fresh perspectives, practical expertise, and innovative approaches that inspire both students and teachers, making a tangible difference in how learning unfolds. By strengthening communication, critical thinking, and self-confidence, these centres are equipping students to achieve academic success, embrace challenges, and dream beyond what they once thought possible. Together with our dedicated donors and volunteers, they are shaping a generation of learners who are resilient, empowered, and ready to thrive in their communities and the wider world.
