The Lahiru Preschool at the OYOB Centre of Excellence in Seenigama holds profound sentimental value for the Foundation of Goodness. In this modest space, our journey began over two decades ago, marking the first of many efforts to bridge the gap between rural and urban opportunity in Sri Lanka.
Since its inception, Lahiru Preschool has nurtured and guided 514 young learners from 24 surrounding villages, shaping bright futures through early education and care. Today, with 34 students currently enrolled, we are proud to announce a remarkable transformation, the complete renovation of the Upper and Lower Kindergarten classrooms, unveiled on 14th June 2025.
A Bright New Beginning: Transforming Learning Spaces
The recently completed renovations have reimagined every corner of the Lahiru Preschool. Outdated furniture has been replaced with brand-new, child-friendly tables and chairs, ensuring comfort and functionality. The classroom walls are now alive with vibrant, educational illustrations, igniting imagination and curiosity among the students.
Beyond the classrooms, the improvements extend to the wider preschool environment. Hygienic and modern washrooms have been installed to ensure the well-being of every child. The front yard, once bare and dusty, has been fitted with soft, synthetic grass, creating a safe and inviting outdoor play area.
“I love this preschool because it has lots of things I like. There is green grass everywhere. The tables and chairs are white, very white, not like the one at my home. The toilet is also nice. I like the bags that hold the toys. The blue and yellow bags have nice stars and vehicle pictures. I like the wall. At my home, the windows are dusty outside, so I can’t see through the glass, but here I can see through the glass.”
– Akindu Ohas, Preschool Student
A Teacher’s Perspective: Pride and Purpose
“I feel truly blessed and proud to teach at Lahiru Preschool, part of the Foundation of Goodness. Our newly renovated classrooms and excellent facilities, including a secure environment, deeply inspire and motivate me to give my best to my students every day.”
– G. K. Sujatha de Chickera, Preschool Teacher, Lahiru Preschool
The upgraded facilities enhance the learning experience for children and also empower teachers to deliver quality education in an environment that prioritises safety, creativity and care.
Celebrating the Official Opening
On the morning of 14th June, a joyous opening ceremony marked the beginning of this new chapter. The event was graced by Champa Samanmali, Deputy Director of the OYOB Centre of Excellence and Kushil Gunasekera, Founder and Chief Trustee of the Foundation of Goodness. Special Guest Sadé Greenwood, former Miss Sri Lanka for Miss World and passionate Goodness Ambassador, added sparkle to the occasion.
Parents, students, well-wishers and members of the community gathered to witness the unveiling of the renovated spaces. The young learners themselves took centre stage with delightful performances that captivated everyone present. Each student received a commemorative bookmark as a keepsake from this memorable day, marking the beginning of their journey in a beautifully transformed environment.

Gratitude Beyond Measure
This extraordinary transformation would not have been possible without the boundless generosity of Port Regis Preparatory School, the Seabrook Family, and Certus Healthcare. Their support has revitalised a space where imagination takes root, friendships blossom and the first steps towards education are taken.
On behalf of everyone at the Foundation of Goodness, especially the children, parents and staff of Lahiru Preschool, we offer our heartfelt thanks. Your belief in our vision continues to change lives and uplift communities. Because of you, Lahiru Preschool is once again a beacon of hope, opportunity and joy.
