Throwball Introduced at the Foundation of Goodness Sports Academy

At the Foundation of Goodness, we believe in the power of sport to build fitness and to instil discipline, foster teamwork and uplift communities. In keeping with this belief, we are thrilled to announce the introduction of a brand new sport to our Sports Academy: Throwball.

On Saturday, 15th March 2025, we kicked off this exciting new initiative at the Seenigama Surrey Oval Outdoor Complex. The introductory session was conducted by Chinthaka, our Sports Coach from the Kotmale Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centre by the Foundation of Goodness, who brought his energy and passion to the field. Around 20 enthusiastic students from our senior and junior cricket and swimming squads gathered to learn the fundamentals of this fast-paced, team sport.

The plan going forward is to expand throwball training to include students from our netball, girls’ cricket, karate and table tennis programmes. Chinthaka will also be introducing a dedicated throwball coach from the region, who will conduct weekly sessions to identify potential players and lay the groundwork for full-time training.

At its heart, this initiative is about more than just introducing a new game. Sport is a powerful vehicle for change. According to the World Health Organisation, children and adolescents should engage in at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity daily, a goal we continue to support through our programmes. Regular participation in sports like throwball can improve cardiovascular health, build muscle strength and support mental wellbeing, all while building friendships and self-confidence.

As the Foundation of Goodness continues to bridge the urban-rural divide, creating new pathways for rural children to shine, we’re excited to see where this journey with throwball leads.
