At the Foundation of Goodness, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to learn with confidence, regardless of their circumstances. Through our Essential School Supplies Programme (ESSP), we help children in underserved rural communities across Sri Lanka begin the school year with the essential items they need to learn, participate and feel prepared.
What began as a simple initiative has become an annual programme made possible through the generosity of donors and supporters. For families with limited resources, the cost of school essentials can place an added strain on household finances and children are often forced to attend classes without everything they need for the school year, often having to make do with one book to write all their subject notes on or wear slippers because they can’t afford shoes. An ESSP pack helps ease some of this burden while giving children the confidence of starting the school year with the supplies they need.
Each pack includes a sturdy backpack, 8 CR exercise books, 2 pens and a shoe voucher worth LKR 3,500. While these are simple necessities, they can make a meaningful difference to a child’s experience at school.
In 2026, our school packs reached 4,493 children across 110 villages in 17 districts of Sri Lanka, helping more children begin the school year with essential learning supplies.
Education opens the door to knowledge, opportunity and greater possibilities for the future. By helping provide some of the essentials needed to access it, the ESSP programme contributes towards ensuring that a family’s financial circumstances do not stand in the way of a child’s education.
