Nourishing Lives During Ramadan: UAE Embassy Supports Dry Ration Distribution

In a world where millions still go to bed hungry, food remains one of the most powerful tools for survival, dignity and hope. This Ramadan, the Foundation of Goodness, with the generous support of the UAE Embassy in Sri Lanka, was able to provide essential dry rations to some of the country’s most disadvantaged families, helping ease their burden during this sacred time of reflection and giving.

Thanks to a donation of Rs. 1,198,000, a total of 355 dry ration packs were distributed across the Badulla, Monaragala, and Puttalam Districts, reaching those who are too often forgotten. Each pack included 5kg of rice, 3kg of lentils, 3kg of flour, 3kg of sugar, a packet of tea leaves and 200g of soya meat; basic yet vital staples that will help nourish families.

For many rural families living below the poverty line, meals are often limited to one or two per day, if at all. Children grow up stunted, mothers skip meals to feed their young and elders go without. Malnutrition silently robs them of strength, energy and the ability to work or learn. Food is not just about eating, it is about surviving, healing and living.

On 16th March 2025, our team visited Haliela in the Badulla District, a village still recovering from devastating landslides. Here, 5 families received dry ration packs as part of our ongoing reconciliation and relief efforts, recognising that rebuilding lives begins with meeting the most basic of needs.

Then, on 20th March 2025, our teams reached Medagama in Monaragala, where 116 families gratefully accepted their food packs.

The same day, we travelled to Madurankuliya and Ratmalyaya in the Puttalam District, distributing 117 packs in each location. For many of these families, the items they received will stretch across several weeks, bringing relief during a time of fasting and devotion.

We are immensely grateful to the UAE Embassy for recognising this urgent need and standing by communities who are often overlooked. Their compassion is more than charity, it is solidarity.

This Ramadan, we were reminded once again that a simple act of giving can go a long way. A sack of rice or a packet of lentils may seem ordinary to some but to a hungry child or an elderly grandmother, it is the difference between hunger and hope.

Together, we can continue to nourish bodies and spirits, one meal, one pack and one kind gesture at a time.
