Originating from a humble background, Vishmi Serasinghe was the Under 14 and Under 16 Sri Lankan Tennis Champion before securing a scholarship to Goshen College in USA in a historic moment for the Foundation of Goodness, which, having identified her unmatched skill, stepped up to sponsor her to date.
Now, delivering on the promise of greatness that was spotted so early on, her contribution has helped her team at Goshen College to reach Nationals for the very first time, and are now ranked No. 14 in the country.
Vishmi was undefeated in all of her matches throughout the conference and has been selected to the All-Crossroads League Team this season, which is one of the highest individual honors in the conference. This recognition is awarded to players who have demonstrated outstanding performance, consistency, and competitiveness throughout the entire season and we are proud to see her shine and go further!
It must also be noted that, during her time at university, Vishmi made great strides both on the tennis court and in her academic pursuits through great effort and dedication. Even with training and fitness sessions filling up her week, Vishmi managed to excel in her academic assignments, earning high marks across the board and scored a 3.55 GPA at the end of the 2025 academic year.
Even during university breaks when there were no schedule practice sessions Vishmi has continued to practice both by herself and with teammates. As a result, Vishmi is has displayed her unmatched capacity to reach academic success while excelling in her tennis journey, not only bringing glory to her university but also to Sri Lanka while honouring those who supported her journey through sponsorships and scholarships, believing in her outstanding talent and ability to succeed!
We can only wish that she enhances her prospects towards greater heights, being exposed at the national level due this opportunity, and may her tennis career excel especially due to the belief that an American coach had in her capabilities by granting this one of a kind scholarship while she was still a teenager.
